Running Plaid, 2007

Click here for a video of Running Plaid.

Running Plaid has sixty-four hand woven textile pixels. It is an exploration of how software can reveal different colors contained in one textile. The yellow state shows all pixels printed with yellow horizontal elements on. In the mixed state, every other pixel is on.

The weave structure affects visual elements and events in time. Woven conductive yarns on the back layer of the double weave structure create softer color change effects. These effects take longer to trigger, as the heated yarns are on the back. This can create an event in time through weave structure, not just pattern. With IFM Design Studio.

Media: Hand-woven cotton, rayon, conductive yarns, silver ink, hand printed water based thermochromic ink, custom drive electronics (version 2) and expressive software. 8 eight-pixel units. 70"w x 35"h.

Running Plaid is currently available for purchase for US$14,500. Please contact IFM for information.
